Fourteen Trinity Prep seniors – Lauren Cameron, Aliya Centner, Safia Centner, Martha Clarke, Alexander Guguchev, Leah Hardgrove, Margarita Ilagan, Prianca Nagda, Rakhi Patel, Varun Patel, Timothy Rotermund, Thor Stead, James Toscano, Bradley Van Allen – have been named 2017 National Merit Semifinalists in the 62nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program. They are among the 16,000 Semifinalists nationwide in this year's program, and these semifinalists come from more than 1.6 million students in 22,000 high schools.
This year's National Merit Semifinalists began the current competition by taking the October 2015 PSAT/NMSQT. Named on a state representational basis, Semifinalists are the highest-scoring program participants in each state. These academically talented high school seniors have the opportunity to continue in the competition for some 7,500 National Merit Scholarships worth approximately $33 million that will be offered in the spring.
The 2017 National Merit Finalists will be announced in February, and the names of the 2017 scholarship winners, also known as Merit Scholar designees, will be released in the spring and summer.
