Lalee Ibssa '17 wins national championship at the National Speech and Debate Tournament in Birmingham, Ala.

Trinity Prep alumnae Lalee Ibssa '17 took home two scholarships after earning the title of national champion at the 2017 National Speech and Debate Tournament in Birmingham, Ala., which took place in late June.

Lalee won her championship in the poetry interpretation section of the tournament. This title earned her a $1,000 scholarship to Western Kentucky University and a $400 Hall of Fame Scholarship. She was also named a semifinalist for prose interpretation.

Other Trinity Prep students also did well in this tournament:

  • Lee Place '17 and Jimmy Toscano '17 placed top 50 in the public forum section
  • Selena Zhao '17 and Barclay McGain '18 placed top 60 in the public forum section
  • Alexandra Lipton '18 placed top 60 in extemporaneous speaking and top 30 in extemporaneous commentary
  • Valerie Trapp '18 named semifinalist for congressional debate
  • Ryan Psik '19 named semifinalist for congressional debate

Trinity Prep also received a School of Honor Award in Debate at this competition, naming this school one of the top 40 debate schools in the nation.
