Dear Trinity Family,
I am honored to share that this year's Baccalaureate speaker will be The Reverend Reid T. McCormick, and our graduation speaker will be Trinity Prep alumna, Mrs. Dorothy Swann McAuliffe '81. The Reverend Ronald G. Brokaw, former faculty member and administrator, will be the Assisting Priest at Baccalaureate. Baccalaureate is on May 31st at St. Lukes, and Graduation will be held on campus on Saturday, June 2nd.
The Reverend Reid T. McCormick and his wife Jackie began their involvement with Trinity Preparatory School in 1998, when their family moved to Winter Park and Reid began serving as associate rector of All Saints Church. At that time, Reid and Jackie's two daughters, Molly and Natalie, enrolled at Trinity Prep. In addition to being a parent of Trinity Prep students, Reverend McCormick initially served as Bishop Howe's appointee and was eventually elected to the Board of Trustees, serving a total of six years. During his time on the board, Reverend McCormick was adamantly supportive of revitalizing the chaplaincy program, including the character development initiative that arose out of a Board of Trustees retreat. He also served as chair of the Building and Grounds Committee, collaborating with the headmaster, faculty, and board members to develop a comprehensive Master Plan as well as plans for the renovation/upgrade of three of the original school buildings, expansion of the arts facilities, demolition of the existing library, and the design programming and construction of the Media Center.
Reverend McCormick is extremely appreciative of the privilege of serving the school as well as the foundational education that the staff and faculty provided his children, who continue to thrive in their respective vocations and communities as a result of Trinity Prep's influence. As a product of a similar school (Episcopal High School of Jacksonville) and now serving as Rector of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church and Academy in Fort Pierce, Reverend McCormick believes in the importance of an Episcopal school, as he is the beneficiary of such a unique spiritual offering that led to his vocational calling as a priest. Reverend McCormick is honored to deliver the 50th anniversary address, marking his fourth Trinity Prep Baccalaureate appearance.
Dorothy Swann McAuliffe '81 is a committed advocate for social justice and equal opportunity. In her time as First Lady of the Commonwealth (Virginia), she engaged stakeholders in state government and higher education to strengthen communities and the next generation by expanding opportunities for national service. She also led efforts to increase support for Virginia's military families, particularly military-connected children who experience frequent school transfers and deployments of family members.
Mrs. McAuliffe empowered local communities by forging innovative partnerships, linking locally grown agriculture, education, health, and nutrition initiatives across Virginia and the country. She has been nationally recognized for her work to eliminate childhood hunger.
Mrs. McAuliffe's advocacy resulted in a historic investment of $2.7 million over three years in the governor's budget to help schools adopt "breakfast after the bell" programs. In partnership with the "No Kid Hungry Virginia" campaign, her leadership led to an increase of over 10 million school breakfasts served to Virginia students each year, as well as increased participation in after-school and summer meal programs for students in need.
Dorothy McAuliffe is a graduate of The Catholic University of America and completed her J.D. at Georgetown University. Currently, she serves as a fellow at Georgetown University's Institute of Politics and Policy in the McCourt School of Public Service and serves on the boards of FoodCorps, an AmeriCorps program supporting healthy food access and food education in local schools, and the Service Year Alliance.
