Here is information on a 9th-grade male student from Spain. Ignacio is an articulate, funny, and intelligent young man who has already achieved a great deal academically as a representative of his school, and through his engagement in community activities. Learning is paramount for Ignacio including discovering new cultures, meeting people, and a desire to become a chemist. For the last three years, Ignacio has attended a special program for gifted students, offered by Madrid's government, which teaches beyond the regular school curriculum. When not involved in academics, Ignacio has been playing golf since age 4 and rugby for the past year. He has been volunteering for the past three years at Madrid's food bank and would like to be able to continue some kind of volunteering at his American school. His free time is typically spent with friends and he also loves reading and listening to music - especially Opera - and he is passionate about cooking and baking family favorite recipes. He loves his country and hopes to share the characteristics of the Spanish people as, "open-minded, warm and sociable.'' His teachers shared these observations about Ignacio: "He has a sense of humor, helpful, a student who truly stands out in all aspects, very accepted and loved by classmates, a person of trust for his closest peers." ASSIST interviewers could not agree more, calling him a "star, gracious, strong and cheerful, a leader who is thoughtful, earnest, he values respect for himself and others."
