In November, several Latin students participated in the CAMWS (Classical Association of the Middle West and South) Translation Contest, in which over 900 students from 50 schools in 19 different states competed. Both Aspen Bombardo '17 and Sylvia Choo '16 were awarded top prizes - cash awards! Only four cash awards were given at their level. Bombardo and Choo each competed on Level 5+, which is open to students who are currently enrolled in or have completed AP Latin or a similar course. Students were given several lines of original Latin poetry, which they had to translate as accurately as possible. Not only did Choo place this year, but she was also awarded the top prize last year as well.

Kyle McGimsey, Trinity Prep Latin teacher and sponsor to the students, expressed his awe of Bombardo's and Choo's skills. "What Aspen and Sylvia have done transcends simply reading Latin from a textbook." McGimsey said. "Their performance in this contest is proof that they are among a fortunate few individuals in our time who have personally experienced the language and culture of people, who, for many, are infinitely remote."

Congratulations, Aspen and Sylvia!
