On Friday, May 27, faculty, staff, and students gathered to celebrate the winners of this year's middle school awards. We are pleased to announce the awards and their recipients for the 2015-16 school year. Congratulations, students!

Judith Rosenstock Award for Academic Excellence

This award is named in honor of Judy Rosenstock, the former middle school principal at Trinity Prep. It is a special award given each year to students who are gifted in many disciplines of study and may have the opportunity to win more than one award.

These students are truly motivated to learn and leave nothing to chance. They are conscientious, diligent, and willing to struggle in order to achieve knowledge. They are dedicated to excellence in all that they do. This academic honor is a comprehensive award; and therefore, students who receive it are not eligible for other middle school academic awards.

Duke TIP Talent Identification Award

Each year, Duke University seeks to recognize and encourage academically talented and gifted seventh grade students. Any seventh grader who has scored in the 95th percentile or higher on certain achievement test batteries is invited to sit for the SAT or ACT in the winter of their seventh grade year. The results from those tests are used to qualify these students for state and national recognition. Some students are also invited to attend summer academic programs at Duke.

All students who qualified for the TIP program were commended during the middle school awards ceremony. We are pleased and proud to support them in their academic achievement. Congratulations!

Some of these students also qualified for state recognition. To qualify, a student must score at least 530 on the verbal or math section of the SAT or 22 on the Math or English section of the ACT. The following students qualified for state recognition and were invited to attend a state ceremony at the University of Florida. Congratulations Emilio Cal, Enzo Cunanan, Tsehai de Souza, Robert Dove, Carson Drummond, Jeffrey Hill, Alex Holt, Henry Huschke, Thomas Lightsey, Marco Malabuyo, Matthew Mapa, Mateo Membreno, Sam Nguyen, Molly Pope, Amy Qiao, Connor Raffa, Jake Raffa, Sophie Robinson, Reid Seybold, Ellie Watson, and Ryan Zehnder.
