This year's College World Series (CWS) was full of firsts. Billy Cooke '14 appears to be the first Trinity Prep alum to win the CWS. He played for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers with a 4-3 victory over Arizona in game three of the finals last week. This was also the first appearance in the CWS for the Chanticleers, and the first national championship for any of their sports teams. In addition to playing baseball at Coastal Carolina, Billy has been on the Dean's List and the 2014-15 Big South Presidential Honor Roll.
"I am very excited for Billy Cooke and the Coastal Carolina baseball program on winning the NCAA National Championship. Billy is a big reason for the success at Trinity Prep over the last seven to eight years. The Trinity Prep baseball family is very proud of him," Trevor Berryhill, varsity baseball coach said. While Coach Berryhill did not coach Billy in baseball, he did coach him on our middle school football team.
Billy was a four-year starter at Trinity Prep and led the team in stolen bases each season. He helped the Saints win a regional baseball championship with a 23-5 record that season. Billy won the Joe Brady Memorial Award at Trinity Prep. Billy's sister, Cami Cooke '15, is also an alum of Trinity Prep.
