Trinity Prep 2020 Presidential Scholars Program Candidates Selected
Seniors Aidan McLaughlin and London Wharton have been selected as candidates for the 2020 United States Presidential Scholars Program, one of the nation's highest honors for high school students. Aidan and London are among approximately 4,000 candidates nation-wide invited to submit an application for the program competition that annually recognizes up to 161 Presidential Scholars for their accomplishments.
The Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize and honor some of our nation's most distinguished graduating seniors. The Program was extended in 1979 to recognize students who demonstrate exceptional talents in the visual, creative and performing arts and again in 2015 to recognize students who demonstrate ability and accomplishments in career and technical fields.
To confirm their interest and assist in the selection process, all candidates must complete and submit candidacy materials for review, including essays, self-assessments, secondary school reports and transcripts. A committee reviews the materials and approximately 800 candidates will be named semifinalists later this spring and will continue on in the competition.
In April, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars reviews the applications of all semifinalists and selects 161 finalists who will be honored during national recognition events held in June in Washington, D. C.
SENIOR PLANNING COMMITTEE
We would like to thank the TPO Senior Planning Committee for their leadership and the many hours spent organizing the Tears & Cheers and Senior Luncheon events. A special thank you to all of our Senior parents who volunteered to make these events a success.
SENIOR PARKING SPOTS
Make a senior parking space your own for the 2020-21 school year. The Class of 2021 can stake their claim with a flash of color and a ton of personality. This is a great way for seniors to express themselves. Painting will occur on August 11, 2020. The price of the parking space is $250. To pay by credit card, click here and, in the drop-down menu, choose ‘21 Senior Parking Space and follow the prompts. You can also send a check, payable to Trinity Prep. If you have already reserved a spot and would like to confirm, contact Sandy Godinho: godinhos@trinityprep.org.
TRINITY PREP PERCUSSION
This week we would like to share a video featuring Trinity Prep percussion students under the direction of their teacher Ms. Heather Thorn. The video was put together and edited by a Trinity Prep alumna.
TEARS & CHEERS VIDEO
The TPO held its very first drive-in Tears & Cheers on Thursday, May 21. Thank you to all the senior parents who made it to the drive-in theater in Deltona. It was worth the drive and braving the elements. The members of the Class of 2020 made heartfelt, beautiful tributes to their families. This year, we are pleased to be presenting every family with the ability to download the Tears & Cheers movie (and the accompanying montage of adorable photos). If you did not receive your copy, please contact Sandy Godinho: godinhos@trinityprep.org.

Included here is a list of remote resources the Rich Library has available for students now that the school year is over. Be sure to focus on SORA, which is the electronic and audible collection that will help students avoid the "summer slide" by providing a huge collection of books to read over the summer.
