Senior Aidan McLaughlin Named Semifinalist in U.S. Presidential Scholars Program
Trinity Prep Senior Aidan McLaughlin has been named one of 621 semifinalists in the 2020 U.S. Presidential Scholars Program. The semifinalists were selected from nearly 5,600 candidates expected to graduate from U. S. high schools in 2020.
Scholars are selected on the basis of superior academic and artistic achievements, leadership qualities, strong character and involvement in both community and school activities. A distinguished panel of educators reviewed the submissions of the nearly 5,600 candidates and selected the 621 semifinalists including 31 semifinalists from the state of Florida.
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program was established in 1964 to recognize some of our nation’s most distinguished graduating seniors for their accomplishments.
Annually, up to 161 Presidential Scholars are chosen from the semifinalists, representing excellence in education and the promise of greatness in America’s youth. Those will be announced in May and they will be invited to Washington D.C. in June for a recognition ceremony as well as a variety of events and activities.

NORTH EAST REGIONAL THESPIAN FESTIVAL
The 30 members of Trinity Prep's Thespian Troupe 1780 participated in the North East Regional Thespian Festival held November 12-14. High schools from Boca to Jacksonville, representing five different districts, participated. All individual events were filmed ahead of time for the virtual festival. Numeric scoring resulted in an overall ranking of a grade of Poor, Fair, Good, Excellent, or Superior. Out of 28 individual events that Trinity Prep students entered, we received two Good, nine Excellent, and 16 Superior ratings. Isabel Tongson's original play, "The Green Room Effect," is currently being read, and we will know her score in a few weeks. Two of our events won top honors: our large group musical selection and one of our solo musical selections. The large group musical, "Stick it to the Man" from "School of Rock,", consisted of Thomas Lightsey, Sierra Jobman, Levi Kaplan, Stoil Bozhkov, Mason Sadlier, Juliet Myers, Molly Halladay-Glynn, Maansi Chandra, Cece Miller, Kaley Frye, Isabel Tongson, and Eleanor Henderson. Thomas Lighsey's solo musical selection, "No Turning Back Now" from "Circles," was the other event to win the top honor award. Parents and friends were able to see a live performance of all the events during our Thespian Showcase on November 9 and 10 at TPS.
