Jessie White '18 Wins the 2018 Congressional Art Competition
Congratulations to Jessie White '18 for winning the 2018 Congressional Art Competition for Florida's Seventh District picked by Stephanie Murphy! Jessie takes AP Photography at Trinity Prep and she is the Photo Editor of the Yearbook. She will be attending the University of Florida in the fall and will be majoring in Creative Photography and Advertising.
Murphy Announces Winner in 2018 Congressional Art Competition
Winter Park student's art will hang in U.S. Capitol
WASHINGTON – U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy today announced that Jessie Li White, a senior at Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park, Fla., is the winner of her 2018 Congressional Art Competition. A panel of local art teachers reviewed over 50 submissions from high school students in Florida's Seventh Congressional District during a recent exhibition event hosted by Murphy and ultimately selected White's piece, titled "Self-Portrait," as the winning artwork. The Congressional Institute, which sponsors the yearly competition, will now fly White to Washington, D.C., for a special ceremony alongside the winners of other participating congressional districts. Her artwork will then be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for an entire year and featured on the official Congressional Art Com

Parents can view a digital version of their child's year-end progress by signing in to MyTPS Portal.
Once you are signed in:

4 Trinity Prep Seniors Win National Merit Scholarships

All winners of the approximately 7,500 National Merit Scholarships are chosen from the group of approximately 15,000 National Merit Finalists. In order to advance in the competition and be considered for a Merit Scholarship Award, a Semifinalist had to become a Finalist by fulfilling several requirements that included submitting a detailed scholarship application and presenting a record of very high academic achievement.
Approximately 2,500 National Merit $2,500 Scholarships will be offered to the Class of 2018 nationwide, and every National Merit Finalist is considered for the award given to Parker Jochum, Charlie Tang and Valerie Trapp. Winners are named in every state, in numbers based on the state's percentage of the nation's high school graduating seniors.
Corporate-sponsored National Merit Scholarships have specific criteria, and about 230 companies and businesses finance National Merit Scholarships for qualified Finalists. Most of the approximately 1,000 corporate-sponsored awards are for children of a sponsor organization's employee, but some are specified for residents in communities where a company plant or corporate office is located. Additionally, a few may be provided to Finalists who have college major or career interests that a sponsor wishes to encourage.
The National Merit Corporation also offers college-sponsored National Merit scholarships, and winners of these scholarships will be announced by the National Merit Corporation later this spring.

TPS Welcomes Three New Coaches
Trinity Preparatory School is pleased to announce the hiring of John Koestner as the new boys golf coach. Koestner has spent the past nine years as Director of Instruction for GolfTec in Tucson, Arizona and Orlando, Florida. He was named GolfTec Coach of the Year in 2015. Koestner has also worked as a teaching professional at Golf Academy of America in Apopka, Florida and was the head golf professional at Paul Duro Creek Golf Club in Nogales, Arizona. Koestner is a Class A PGA member and a certified Level 1 Titleist Performance Institute professional. In 2004 The Bradenton Herald voted Koestner as "Best Instructor."
Trinity Preparatory School is pleased to announce the hiring of Terri Kruczek as varsity girls volleyball coach. Kruczek will direct all aspects of the TPS volleyball program from middle school teams through varsity. She is a graduate of George Mason University and received her master's degree in education from the University of Central Florida. Kruczek has been coaching high school athletics for 30 years. Most notably, she spent 11 seasons as Lake Howell High School's girls head volleyball coach from 2003-2014. She led the Silverhawks to a 209-98 regular season record, seven regional finals, and four Final Four appearances.
Trinity Preparatory School is pleased to announce the hiring of Sara Dowdy as varsity girls and boys cross country coach. She is a graduate of the University of Colorado and received her Master's in Teaching degree from the University of Washington. Coach Dowdy has been a teacher and coach at Trinity Prep for the past 19 years. She has been the head girls cross country coach and varsity assistant track coach for the distance program for the past three years. Prior to that, she served as the head JV cross country coach, the head middle school track coach, assistant varsity cross country coach, and assistant track coach.

Mission Trip to Dominican Republic
Students and staff of Trinity Prep recently returned from a 2-week mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The group from Trinity Prep went with the Diocese of Orlando in order to help teach English to the local students in La Cucharita and Los Frios.
"The trip was amazing and extremely eye opening," said Maddy Canal '19, one of the students on the trip. "I was able to help in more ways than I believed I could and the people we encountered there were truly inspiring."
One of the fun activities the children took part in was writing and filming their own plays. With help from former faculty member and PeaceJam advisor Katie Seymour, the children acted out scenes and then watched the finished product on Katie's phone [as pictured].
The Spanish Honors Society donated supplies to the school. The children had the opportunity to write a special "thank-you" note to TPS Spanish teacher Señora Heard.

Trinity Prep Forensics Team at the Tournament of Champions
The Trinity Prep Forensics Team took nine students this past weekend to the University of Kentucky to compete in the Tournament of Champions. One of the top three most prestigious tournaments all year, students have to do very at tournaments earlier in the year to compete. Eli Finkelstein '19 and Alissa Vuillier '19 made it to quarterfinals, placing in the top 24 of 96 competitors in Extemporaneous Speaking. Ashley Mason '20 placed 9th out of 49 competitors in Oral Interpretation. Finally, Alexis Huang '20 and Katie Rohrbaugh '20 won first place out of 151 competing teams in Silver Public Forum! Half of the TPS students who participated in the tournament advanced to elimination rounds! This is a great accomplishment for the whole team, as Trinity Prep has not had a champion at the Tournament of Champions in recent history.
Additionally, Nathan Johnston has been recognized by the National Speech & Debate Association for his exemplary volunteerism to promote speech and debate. He was elected by his peers in 2017 to serve a two-year term as a committee member. Trinity Prep is very appreciative of Nathan and his dedication to our forensics program.
