The Trinity Film Festival gives students the opportunity to share their creativity with the school community. Student-produced films from a variety of genres will be showcased on Saturday, May 4 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. A few films may contain content that would be similar to a movie with a PG-13 rating, but most movies will be appropriate for all ages. There is a $5 suggested donation for admission; all proceeds from the event are donated to United Cerebral Palsy.

TPS Students Walk Away With 23 Awards From Orange County Ying Expo Science Fair
On Feb 21st, 14 TPS middle and upper school students participated in the Orange County, Ying Expo Science Fair at the Central Florida Fairgrounds.
On Feb 26th, the awards ceremony for the fair was held here at Trinity Prep. Our students were well represented among prize winners, walking away with more than $3000 in cash awards and numerous invitations to competitions around the nation.
The American Psychological Association offers a certificate and a $20.00 Mastercard gift card to a Senior student who best met their criteria in the area of Behavioral Science. - Arthi Jaishankar

Sixteen Seniors Named Class of 2019 National Merit Finalists
Sixteen Trinity Prep seniors – Adede Appah-Sampong, John Baldwin, Matthew Castro, Daniel Contaldi, Olivia Demetriades, Will Driscoll, Setareh Gooshvar, Andrew Kwa, Dominic Martinez, Andrew Miller, Olivia Miller, Tej Stead, Alissa Vuillier, Jackie Wang, Robbie Witten, Jed Yang – have been named 2019 National Merit Finalists by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.
The TPS seniors are among the 15,000 Finalists nationwide, and the selection of some 7,500 Merit Scholarship winners will come from this group.
More than 1.6 million students in the Class of 2019 began the current National Merit competition by taking the October 2017 PSAT/NMSQT, and 16,000 Semifinalists, the highest-scoring program participants, were named last fall. As Semifinalists, these seniors submitted additional information last fall and had to meet all requirements and deadlines to advance to Finalist standing in the competition.
National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced this spring, beginning in March and continuing through July.

BACCALAUREATE AND COMMENCEMENT SPEAKERS
The Class of 2019 Baccalaureate and Commencement speakers have been announced. The Rev. Daniel R. Heischman, D.D., executive director of the National Association of Episcopal Schools, will be the Baccalaureate speaker on May 29 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church. Rev. Heischman was the college chaplain at Trinity College in Hartford, Connecticut for four years, and was also head of the upper school and assistant headmaster of St. Albans School in Washington, DC. Trinity Prep Author Festival Showcases 29 Authors from US & Canada
J.K. Rowling once said, "If you don't like to read, you haven't found the right book." The "right book" and accompanying author might just happen to be at Trinity Preparatory School's Author Festival on February 8.
Trinity Prep's 4th annual Author Festival is a free, community-wide book and author event open to the public and hosted by the preparatory school in Winter Park, Fla. This year, nearly 30 well-known authors from the U.S. and Canada will be on hand to sign books, lead discussion panels and chat with young readers and aspiring writers.
"I can't wait to be a part of the Trinity Prep Author Fest," said Brigid Kemmerer, an author featured at this year's event. "I love when schools and students and readers and writers come together to talk about books and storytelling."
What also makes this event exciting is the Trinity Prep student involvement.
Students will be leading all of the author panels and helping to coordinate the event's structure. They were charged with creating the questions to ask during the panel sessions, as well as handling the details surrounding the authors' schedules.
"I'm very excited for Author Fest because so many Trinity students get the opportunity to meet their favorite authors and talk to them," said Trinity Prep freshman Leah Keefe. "I think it's so cool that we get to experience interactions with these authors that we probably wouldn't get at any other school."
This is truly an author festival with the reader in mind.
Event planners Reba Gordon, director of the Rich Library, and Georgia Parker, English and Literature teacher, have book signings scheduled, as well as multiple concurrent panels in which authors will discuss their writing process, the path to publication, and the importance of reading.
The event takes place in the Rich Library on the campus of Winter Park's Trinity Preparatory School from 3 to 6 p.m. Friday, February 8.
"The countdown is on," said author Kristin Durfee. "Hands down my favorite event of the year. Mark your calendars!"
Last year over 300 people were in attendance. And, with even more authors participating this year, event planners are expecting an even better public turnout.

Spanish Language Students Help Local Community

Finishing the semester strong, the AP Spanish Language program teamed up with Blue Jeans Go Green in efforts to reduce waste by repurposing old worn blue jeans.
While reducing their carbon footprint and fulfilling required AP credit, the AP Spanish Language Club assisted Blue Jeans Go Green in their mission to recycle Denim by-product from their own manufacturing process into a sustainable housing insulation. The by-product, an environmentally friendly insulation, has even been incorporated by some non-profit organizations such as Habitat for Humanity.
Students of the Spanish Language program could not have been more eager to help, jumping at the opportunity to aid both local and national communities. In fact, their efforts have had a trickle down effect on the rest of the Trinity community. Following midterm exams in December, Trinity experienced a surge in donated denim items. Totalling 86 pieces donated to the J. Crew store located at the Mall of Millenia, our students strive to only increase their donations and seek to escalate their charitable efforts come spring.
