Trinity Prep alumna, Denée Benton, cast in Lifetime television show: UnReal
Recently, we brought you news of one of Trinity Prep's alumni, Denée Benton, getting her big break on Broadway alongside Josh Groban. Benton was also recently cast in Lifetime Network's hit show UnReal. Check out the Deadline Hollywood article below about Benton's casting!
Monica Barbaro (Hawaii Five-O), Denée Benton, Michael Rady (Jane The Virgin) and Gentry White (Turn: Washington's Spies) have joined the second season cast of Lifetime's hit UnReal as series regulars.
Created by Marti Noxon and Sarah Gertrude Shapiro, UnReal gives a fictitious behind-the-scenes glimpse into the chaos surrounding the production of a dating competition program, Everlasting.
Barbaro, repped by Main Title Entertainment, will play Everlasting contestant Yael, who will drive Rachel (Shiri Appleby) insane because she's the hotter, less damaged, not crazy, version of her. Benton, repped by Gersh and Perennial Entertainment, is Everlasting contestant Ruby, who's very smart and is not at all interested in doing what the producers of Everlasting want her to do. Rady, repped by Gersh and Authentic Talent & Literary Management, is Coleman, an East Coast kid who went to NYU film school and is now a documentary filmmaker, and White, repped by Gersh, Luber Roklin and Jackoway Tyerman, is Romeo, Darius Hill's (B.J. Britt) cousin.
Starring Shiri Appleby and Constance Zimmer as producers Rachel Goldberg and Quinn King, UnReal made the AFI's list of the 10 best shows of 2015, and Zimmer snared a best supporting actress Critics' Choice Award earlier this month for her role. Production on Season 2 is set to begin in March for a summer premiere.
Director of technology, Denise Musselwhite, to attend Sparkplaces Conference
As an extension of Trinity Prep's dedication to ensuring that our students have a positive and unique learning environment, Denise Musselwhite, director of technology, will represent the school at the Sparkplaces Conference in the innovative city of San Francisco. The conference is a two-day dynamic design expedition that will take place from Feb. 26 to 27. The focus of the conference is allowing participants the opportunity to explore contemporary educational spaces and their effect on student learning. Musselwhite has also been invited to participate in the NAIS AC16 Innovation Day on Feb. 24, an invite-only event exploring innovation in learning and teaching.
Intellectual leaders and pioneers like Musselwhite will participate in collaborative and active sessions, consisting of imaging and design activities, that will discuss new classroom and design concepts. The hope is that schools will be able to provide students with an education that supports critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving in these newly designed classroom spaces.
Musselwhite is looking forward to expanding her knowledge of effective learning environments. "I hope to learn more about what other schools have learned and observed by re-imaging physical space in schools and classrooms," she said. She will use this new information when leading a related conference at the Association of Technology Leaders in Independent Schools (ATLIS) not only later this year, but also upon her return to the Trinity Prep campus.
Trinity Prep is a school that strives towards maintaining a transformative learning environment. Faculty members and administrators like Musselwhite are genuinely dedicated to creating this atmosphere every day. The use of physical space at our school plays a major role in the success of our students, whether it be the school's Rich Library, where students can opt to partake in MSON programs, or the Science Discovery Room in Brokaw Hall, which serves as a place for scientific success. The learning opportunities are vast, with endless possibilities for further learning, and they all stem from spaces in which students can feel comfortable to be innovative and creative.

Trinity Prep alumnus Mike Toth '75 to present at the Smithsonian Institute

Trinity Prep alumnus Mike Toth '75 has one of the most interesting jobs in the world. He is president of R.B. Toth Associates in Oakton, Virginia, a company that uses new technologies for the digital study and preservation of historical objects.
On any given day, you can find Toth in Africa, Thailand, or right here in the United States on a mission to recover and analyze historic documents. Toth combines spectral imaging with the digitization of images to scan ancient texts. In this way, he is able to uncover messages that have been hidden by corrosion for thousands of years. He has had the opportunity to study artifacts from multiple different time periods. The Gettysburg Address is just one example of a document Toth has been able to work on. He discovered the speech had fingerprints and was possibly tri-folded to fit into Lincoln's coat pocket.
We couldn't be happier to report that Toth will be presenting at the Smithsonian in Washington D.C. later this month. He recently uncovered the writings of a second-century Greek physician. These writings were hidden for years under an 11th century Syrian hymnal text, and Toth and his team were able to uncover them. Toth will regale the audience on Feb. 23 with the story of how he and his team tracked down and digitized these rare manuscripts.
