In recognition of his 23 years of service to Trinity Prep, the Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the naming of the Maughan Administration Center, currently known as the Education Center, in honor of Headmaster Craig Maughan. A formal dedication ceremony will be held on Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. during reunion weekend. All current and former Trinity Prep students, families, and faculty are invited to attend.

The construction of the Education Center was Craig's first major capital project when he began working at the school in 1993. The building is at the heart of campus and showcases Trinity Prep's commitment to educational excellence. The building is currently home to administrative offices, the auditorium, and classrooms.

Paul Perkins '84, chair of the Board of Trustees and a Trinity Prep parent, presented Mr. Maughan with the news of the honor at a

recent board of trustees dinner and reflected on Craig's dedication to the school and passion for excellence. "On behalf on the whole Trinity family, we want you to know what a difference you have made," he said. "For half of our school's history, you have been at the helm quietly and strongly leading us forward. We will never forget you. The Maughan Administration Center will forever show the next generation of Trinity Prep students how important it's fourth headmaster has been to our school."

Please plan to join us for the ceremony and a special "lunch on the lawn" on April 30 to help us acknowledge all that Headmaster Craig Maughan has done for the school. Please visit trinityprep.org/celebrate to register for the event.

By Alyssia McDonald '17

On March 12 and 13, seventeen of Trinity Prep's most passionate and dedicated Spanish students competed in the Florida State Spanish Conference, which consisted of impromptu speaking, declamations of poetry, and dramatic presentations, with over nine hundred students from fifty different schools in attendance.

Trinity Prep excelled in these activities, earned the highest marks in 21 of the 23 categories, and placed second overall. In addition to this great success, our students received perfect scores in six of those categories. Four of these scores were awarded to Alexandra Feld '17, Sloane Mercer '18, Parker Jochum '18, and Amos Epelman '16 for their outstanding performances in impromptu speaking, and two were awarded to Amanda Rivas '16 and Adede Appah-Sampong '19, for their distinguished work in declamations. Amos Epelman '16, Melanie Langdon '17, Alexandra Feld '17, Caroline White '16, Bradley Van Allen '17, and Francisco Calimano '16, were also awarded with a perfect score for their dramatic presentation.

Trinity Prep's performance in the conference meant a lot to everyone involved, especially Trinity Prep teachers and sponsors, Senora Heard, Senorita Kanouse, and Senorita Daugherty. The students dedicated much time to preparation, beginning in early fall and continuing throughout winter break. These teachers could not be prouder of the students' ability to balance both the extensive preparation process for the conference and their regular classwork.

"This year's team is one of the best teams I have ever worked with as they were extremely kind and supportive of one another," Senora Heard said. "It is a bittersweet moment as we say goodbye to seven seniors. Amanda Rivas participated all four years of upper school, and her leadership as this year's captain was outstanding."

Congratulations to these hardworking Spanish students!

Latin students win top prizes in CAMWS competition

In November, several Latin students participated in the CAMWS (Classical Association of the Middle West and South) Translation Contest, in which over 900 students from 50 schools in 19 different states competed. Both Aspen Bombardo '17 and Sylvia Choo '16 were awarded top prizes - cash awards! Only four cash awards were given at their level. Bombardo and Choo each competed on Level 5+, which is open to students who are currently enrolled in or have completed AP Latin or a similar course. Students were given several lines of original Latin poetry, which they had to translate as accurately as possible. Not only did Choo place this year, but she was also awarded the top prize last year as well.

Kyle McGimsey, Trinity Prep Latin teacher and sponsor to the students, expressed his awe of Bombardo's and Choo's skills. "What Aspen and Sylvia have done transcends simply reading Latin from a textbook." McGimsey said. "Their performance in this contest is proof that they are among a fortunate few individuals in our time who have personally experienced the language and culture of people, who, for many, are infinitely remote."

Congratulations, Aspen and Sylvia!
