On March 29 and 30, the Trinity Prep boys varsity tennis team took first place in the District Championship game. The team faced tough opponents but emerged victorious from the competition after winning all their single and doubles matches.

The team will go on to the Regional Championship as the host team next week. If they are successful, they will advance to the State competition.

The girls varsity team competed in the District Championship competition as well. They played well and took first in doubles. Their overall team score tied with the score of Father Lopez Catholic High School, however, and this means they will need to replay their match before a winner is announced. They'll take on Father Lopez again on Friday, April 1, to declare a winner.

We wish both the boys and the girls varsity tennis teams the best of luck in their upcoming matches!

On March 19, Trinity Prep's Science Olympiad team traveled to the University of Central Florida to participate in the Florida Science Olympiad State Tournament. The competition consisted of 42 teams from all around the nation competing in 23 different science events. Trinity Prep's performance was truly spectacular! Our students placed high in all events, putting us at the upper top half of all teams. In addition to this outstanding achievement, our team placed fourth overall.

Science Olympiad sponsor and faculty member Michael Arney said, "This year's group of scientists was amazing. We had a good combination of youthful enthusiasm and senior leadership. Saumya Sao '16 and Jacob Goldberg '16 went above and beyond in terms of planning and working hard. Some last minute lineup changes made for excitement, but everyone really rose to the occasion, and I couldn't be prouder."

Trinity Prep Junior Amber Yang is a budding scientist in the making! Not only did she win multiple awards at this year's Ying Orange County Science Expo; last week she was awarded the Grand Prize for best overall project at the Florida State Science Fair. With the award came a $1,000 cash prize. She was also the recipient of a $200 cash award from the Florida Department of Agriculture and two recognition awards--one from NASA and one from the United States Air Force. Yang's project is entitled "Orbital Recognition System for Space Debris Tracking Using Artificial Neural Networks— A Journey from Inner-Brain GPS to Outer-Space GPS."

Additionally, senior Saumya Sao placed third in the chemistry division and was awarded a $600 cash award from the American Chemical Society.

Sophomore Akhil Karandikar also participated in the fair and, while he did not place, he was awarded a $50 cash award from the Florida Science Supervisors group for his project.

Our students' performance in the competition was truly an honor for Trinity Preparatory School. Their hard work and dedication to the fair is something to be applauded.

Congratulations, Amber, Saumya, and Akhil!

Each year, the Rawlings Baseball company and Perfect Game name both a Rawlings-Perfect Game Preseason All-American team and an All-Region team. These awards are given to honor the top senior baseball athletes nationwide. Varsity baseball player and senior Jared Herron was awarded a High Honorable Mention for All-American and named to the Florida All-Region First Team.

Herron was recognized at both the national and regional levels. A few of Herron's teammates also received awards of distinction. Robyn Steenstra was ranked at the regional level for the class of 2016, and Slade Cecconi and Andrew Roberts were recognized at the national level for classes 2017, 2018, and 2019.

"This recognition is a testament to the ability level and hard work that these young men have put into becoming the best players they can be," says head varsity baseball coach Trevor Berryhill. "I very am proud of them and blessed to be their coach at Trinity Prep."

On Wednesday, April 13, six Trinity Prep senior athletes symbolically signed their commitment documents to play college sports. Chas Cook, Jesse Millson, and Kendall Gasner will run cross country and track for California Polytechnic State University, the University of Florida, and Rhodes College, respectively. Robyn Steenstra will play baseball for Stetson University. Both Trent Suddeth and Blake Garfinkel committed to play basketball at the collegiate level. Suddeth will play for Carnegie Mellon University and Garfinkel will attend Sewanee University. In total for the class of 2016, 13 Trinity Prep students have committed to playing college athletics.

The students attended the signing ceremony dressed in their respective college apparel and took pictures with parents and coaches to celebrate their commitment to pursue their sport. The occasion is tremendously important both to remember all of the hard work that the athletes put into their sports, and to signal continued commitments in college.

Congratulations, athletes!
